I painted this view of the Strahov Monastery from my May trip to Prague. Founded in 1140, the monastery houses one of the world's most valuable and best-preserved libraries, containing medieval manuscripts, maps, and globes. Its 17th century Baroque Theological Hall and 18th century Classical Philosophy Hall are decorated with ceiling frescoes by Czech artist Siard Nosecký and Austrian painter Anton Maulbertsch, and its Strahov Gallery holds one of the most important Central European collections of Gothic, Baroque, and Rococo paintings.
